Abahani shut door on Tamim forever
Tamim joined Mohammedan reportedly for a whopping Tk 20 lakh that equalled the record of Mashrafee bin Murtaza and Sakib al Hasan, who recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Abahani to play for them.
Tamim was set to extend his contract with Abahani for Tk 15 lakh, but the opener dodged the club after he had returned from holiday in Mauritius. Ahabani officials said Tamim contacted one of their office bearers and asked for Tk 18 lakh.
‘It’s very unfortunate that he is not receiving our call now. He was an integral part of our plan. Now we have to rejig everything,’ said Abahani cricket secretary GS Hasan Tamim.
‘National players are supposed to be the role model for our young generation. But if they don’t keep their words how they will play that role? We will not welcome a player of this nature in our club in future,’ said the official.
Tamim was not available for comments.
Another Abahani official Jalal Yunus said after losing Tamim to Mohammedan, they have now confirmed the services of Imrul Kayes from Gazi Tank Cricketers.
Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting Club have completed their quota of pool players with Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Ashraful and Mamudullah Riyad. After Tamim joined them, Mohammedan have released their other pool player Dollar Mahmud to Old DOHS.
Former national captain Khaled Mashud, Aftab Ahmed and Tamim’s elder brother Nafees Iqbal will also play for Mohammedan this season.
